NCA Amendment Bill: Public Hearing Dates Announced
The Portfolio Committee on Trade & Industry has published (for comment) a draft bill to amend the National Credit Act. After having received written submissions from many parties they will now be moving to the next step in the consultation phase which is public hearings.
At the public hearings, those who made submissions are able to make oral and audiovisual presentations (of 20 minutes or less) about the draft bill.
Where & When?
These public hearings will be held at the Old Assembly at the Cape Town Parliament on the 30th, 31st of Jan as well as on the 2nd of February 2018.
Monday 22nd is the deadline for notifying the Committee of the intent to make an oral and audiovisual presentation. After each 20 minute oral presentation, the committee allows a further 20 minutes for questions so that they can ask for clarity on any of the points in the presentation.
Want To Attend? You Can
It seems (at this point) that over 40 different organisations made written submissions regarding the draft bill. Included in that number are credit providers and debt counsellors as well as consumer rights organisations. The hearings are public so should you wish to attend, you can. You will need to bring a copy of your ID (or drivers licence) and enter Parliament via the visitor’s entrance on Plein street on the day of the hearings. You can ask for directions from security at the gatehouse.
