NDCA’s Presentation on the Draft NCA Amendment Bill
The Portfolio Committee on Trade & Industry has been hearing public comments and presentations on their draft amendments to the National Credit Act.
An association of the large Debt Counselling firms in South Africa (The National Debt Counselling Association) made a presentation and recommended that the committee consider the phrasing of many of the proposed changes. They feel that asking Debt Counsellors to investigate every credit agreement for reckless credit is going to be difficult within the timelines Debt Counsellors operate within. Here they suggested some changed phrasing and greater clarity. They also state that the NCRDebthelp system could be used to greater effect to assist with any debt intervention process (to notify credit bureaus).
‘we believe the existing infrastructure of debt counsellors must be utilized in a more robust
way to ensure more consumers can be helped’
