Scam Alert

Some SA motorists have been taken for a ride with a new cunning scam. The scam involves someone calling pretending to be from either the car manufacturer or dealership where the car was bought. They then inform the driver (and they have all the details of what the car is and who you are) that the car has a serious problem. They say all the cars are being recalled due to the danger and the company will be sorting the issue out or replacing the vehicle. They promise to send a flatbed truck to take away the car.

The person also receives a convincing email that says the same thing. In the email all the person’s details and info about the car and registration are included.

They then get the person to tell them where they are and send a proper truck to take the car away. The driver hands over the keys and…it is gone, never to be seen again.

Beware!

Never give your keys to anyone to take away your car for safekeeping or to put into storage (even if you are behind on your payments) as you may be being scammed. Some consumers have been taken in by similar scams when they think the bank is coming to repossess their car due to late payments. Beware!
