December 27th (which is a Tuesday) has been declared a public holiday this year.
Because the Christmas holiday (which is a public holiday by default in South Africa) falls on a Sunday this year, SA labour law states that the public holiday should be shifted to the following day.
Here is the snag: the following day (Monday) is already a public holiday (known as the Day of Goodwill). So, everyone was curious as to what would happen. Would the following day be made into a public holiday or not?
Labour unions in particular were pushing for some more time off for workers (or double time for those who have to work).
The Presidency has announced that the 27th will be a public holidaythis year.
Keep In Mind
It is good to keep in mind that most credit provider debt review departments do not officially operate on the public holidays. This means that those phone calls and emails will have to wait a day or two.
‘The Presidency has announced that the 27th will be a public holidaythis year’
Most credit provider debt review departments are working through the end of the year (except public holidays) or running on a skeleton staff during the last week of the year.
Also, it is good to keep the extra public holiday in mind when working out business days this year (and the start of next).
