Eskom Wants To Raise Prices By 32%

Eskom have announced that they will be applying for a 32% rate increase in 2023

Eskom have announced that they plan to ask NERSA (the National Energy Regulator of SA) for a massive hike in tariffs next year. While not surprising the percentage they are targeting is high. Namely, 32%.

You might be forgiven for thinking that Eskom are aiming high and fully expecting NERSA to once again shoot them down and only allow a lower tariff like they did last time when Eskom asked for 20.5% and were only granted a 9.61% increase by the regulator.

‘Eskom are aiming high and fully expecting NERSA to once again shoot them down’

Regardless, it is clear that the woes at Eskom continue as is evidenced by the sudden spike in loadshedding again. Eskom are clearly hoping to raise their rates to keep ahead of ever increasing costs on their side.

At the same time, consumers can only look on in horror as they contemplate a 32% increase in already high costs.
