The NewERA make mention of one of our own in their recent:  i need a Hero/Heroine campaign.

There really are heroes out there. They literally put their lives on the line to preserve our freedoms. Freedom of speech, freedom to travel, freedom to eat healthy food and drink clean water. Freedom to live and learn and love. Freedom for our children.

Sadly, you don’t get to hear about most of them. They are the silent warriors, working for little or no material gain.

Some heroes you do get to hear about, like Julian Assange from Wikileaks. Sitting in London under house arrest with a tracking device attached to his leg, he is fighting extradition to Sweden while seeking asylum in Ecuador. Such is the life of a crusader. And he does all of this while producing a TV show.

I need a heroine!

In their latest magazine, Noseweek discusses both Julian Assange and his lawyer, Jennifer Robinson. This 31 year old Aussie goddess has a phenomenal track record of pro-bono cases. She has even made it to that infamous “watch out for this one” list kept at airports. The NewERA is proud to have obtained special permission from Noseweek to reproduce the full story of Jules and Jen which you may read here.

If you are unfamiliar with the Noseweek publication, these heroes have been blowing the lid on corruption in South Africa for 153 months. All their archived achievements going back 12 years are available to subscribers of Noseweek here.

But what does all this have to do with NewERA and the banks, you may ask? Well, we would like to introduce you to another heroine, Deborah Solomon from the Debt Counselling Industry.

While you and I have been dilly dallying about in our daily lives, the banks have attempted to circumvent debt counselling in order to replace it with their own, controlled form of debt management system called voluntary debt mediation. Deborah was not fooled for a second by the banks attempt to sidestep her entire industry, so she sideswiped them back and stopped debt mediation dead in its tracks. BANG. In the process, she has annoyed the living daylights out of the banks. Hooray for Debbie!

To support Deborah, please sign her petition to “stop banks acting in bad faith” here.

But what if we do not have the time to take an active interest in what is going on around us? Then let’s support those heroes around us who crusade on our behalf. After all, as a wise man (sort of) once said: “Support the hero you want to see in the world.”

Tell me , do you know of a hero or heroine that you feel deserves to be supported?

If so, please nominate them for the NewERA “I need a Hero” award. Let’s find out who is out there fighting for our freedom, and let’s give them the public support they deserve.
