Our Editor’s Note
Spring has sprung. Flowers are blooming (ask anyone with allergies), the rugby is on TV and we can almost see the December holidays in the distance.
It is interesting how having the prospect of a small break at the end of the year can really help get us through the workweek. If someone irritates you at the office (or something similar) you think to yourself, I can handle this for a few more weeks. It’s almost December.
Just having that rest period just ahead can motivate and comfort us. It is similar to how having a realistic debt review plan in place can help us reduce our stress about our debts. Sure, we might still get a weird collections call (or something similar) from time to time but the fact that we can say: “I am under debt review” provides us with the peace of mind to get through.
Of course, the end of the year also brings many financial pressures, as does the start of the school year that follows. This is why your Debt Counsellor will have told you that saving a little money each month while under debt review is important. We delve into this subject in some detail this issue. Have you saved enough to make it through December and Jan? What else should you be saving for?
We also look at a simple step that many Debt Counsellors forget to take when a new consumer applies for debt review. We have advice, tips, news and more. All designed to help inform you and help you make wise choices while under debt review or financial pressure.
One of the challenges of being in debt review is the fatigue that comes with paying off your debt slowly in tiny bite size chunks. Sure, it is much more affordable and helps you cover your vital monthly running costs but it can also be slow and hard to see your progress. This is why knowing exactly how long you have to go and tracking what month of your plan you are in can help you keep your debt free goal in mind.
With that goal in mind, you will be able to shrug off the little stuff and keep on moving ahead. It can help motivate you to get through the tough months ahead and keep you on track until you eventually get debt free.
