Thinking of Becoming a Debt Counsellor?
Challenging But Rewarding
Debt is on the increase. The economy continues to struggle along and this means that many people will take on debt to get by. While many today take on debt to buy things they don’t really need right now, this is actually fine…as long as they are happy to repay the amount with interest. Of course, with sudden changes in circumstances and unplanned for expenses or maybe just bad budgeting many find they are behind on debt repayments.
People Need Help
In fact, statistics show that around half of those who take credit are failing to pay it on time or perhaps have not paid for many, many months. Thus the need for professional advice in how to get out of debt. At present debt counselling is a great money recovery option for most creditors where a consumer willingly makes arrangements through a trained professional third party who deeply analyses their situation and even take things to court.
If you feel like you would like to become a Debt Counsellor and enter the industry you will need to meet the minimum requirements (be a SA citizen without a criminal record, with Grade 12 and some general business experience) and complete a NCR approved 10 day training course about the National Credit Act. Then you will need to be certified by the NCR and actually begin working at a debt counselling firm or begin your own small practice.
Though starting and running any business is challenging debt counselling does give an opportunity to effect real change in peoples lives if done well and if the client is willing to put in some effort to turn their situation around.
