Maria Ramos Retires from ABSA

ABSA Chief Executive Officer Maria Ramos has announced her retirement at the end of February. She has headed up ABSA for a decade and will turn 60 in February.

Ms Ramos had earlier indicated that she was considering retiring back in 2016 but due to changes within the organisation (to do with Barclay’s) she decided to stay on and help oversee things for a bit longer.

A bit longer turned into nearly 3 years and she is now taking the chance to retire this year. For the near future the former Reserve Bank registrar of banks, Mr Rene van Wyk will hold the interim position as CEO. Rene has been an ABSA board member since 2017.
