ABSA Increase Staff Training

training meetingABSA Debt Review department have embarked on a campaign of internal staff training, in an effort to upskill team members on an ongoing basis. To make provision for this training they will be making use of Monday afternoons after 15:30 pm each week. This training is aimed at making sure the team are very familiar with systems and the overall debt review process. Providing teams with a context for the individual tasks they perform greatly assists with matters where there are challenges and where the matter is slightly outside the ‘norm’. Training of staff is key to a successful operation. ABSA began this new routine of training during March and say it is likely to be ongoing indefinitely.

Don’t Forget

Those trying to reach ABSA Debt Review should take note of this change and try to contact them slightly earlier on Mondays, to avoid any frustration.

Other than this positive change, it is business as usual for the ABSA Debt Review Team.

    • Contact them and resend the forms if they are taking too long. Also if you see anything on a credit bureau report you can just lodge a complaint/query on their website (normally all bureaus have a form you can download and fill in). Attach your form 17w and wait 21 days.

      • Technology at ABSA does not work. i have been trying to get a paid up letter for 6 weeks now, as i am not in South Africa, till to date not even a reply, only auto reply with a reference number, request update with reference number, they give you new number. 6 weeks and it is frustrating. thought technology is taking over, ABSA service is pathetic

    • Which division at ABSA are you having issues with?
      What type of issues?

(ps. it is best to talk to them directly since we don’t know how often they visit this website page)

      • You can ask ABSA where they see that (debt review) listing and then query it (probably a credit bureau- you should draw a free report and find out what is showing).
Alternatively, send them the Form 17.4 or 17.w your Debt Counsellor gave you and ask them to make the needed changes on the ABSA system.

I have contacted Absa collections they cannot pick u the card and I called SSSD the collections agency they cannot pick any details to assist me. All I want is to arrange payment.

  4. I have paidup my credit card, vehicle and bond settled while under debt review now am told i owe credit card but I have a letter that was issued by ABSA on 4/12/2015 confirming that all my credit cards are paid up. They even issued a refund. How can I resolve the issue on credit card?

  5. I sm trying to reach out to absa debt review I need a paid up letter urgently before my debt counsellor pay again and then i will be in credit. They take off payment on the 15th of each month.

  6. Afternoon guys… I’m heaving a bad experience with absa relating to my car… My car was put under debt review and I’ve been paying loyal through my debt Councillor… Now my problem is that absa wants to repossess the vehicle while I’m paying and I’ve never defaulted… How can I sort out this problem… Can somebody help… Thanks…

    • How do you know they want to repossess it? Did a collections person tell you that? Did you get a summons to court?
If a collections person told you that then ignore them.
If you got a summons then talk to your attorney and Debt Counsellor and put in papers to defend the matter URGENTLY.

Either way talk to your Debt Counsellor and do not give your keys to anyone.

  7. My credit card account was under debt review up until end October 2018 when the PDA made the final payment. I however now found out after requesting a paid up letter that there is in fact still an outstanding amount due on the account. I called your call center and have been sent from pillar to post. Collections department tells me the system shows that the account is still under review and Debt review department it show as terminated. All I want is an amount in order for me to pay this and get a paid up letter. Please help

  8. I am also currently under debt review and have been seeing my instalments are going off for my credit cards but i still get harassed. I have been asking for a statement to see what I owe and whether my payments have been received but no one comes back to me.

    • Have you been asking your credit provider for statements or have you been asking your PDA (who should automatically send you a statement every month)?

If the credit provider won’t give you statements then you can ask your Debt Counsellor to help you prepare an application to the National Consumer Tribunal (there is a form) to force the credit provider to give you your statement.

If anyone calls you from the credit providers collections agent: simply ask them if they record the conversations? If they say: yes they do then insist that they not record you and tell them that you do not give permission for your voice to be recorded. Just keep saying that until they pull their hair out and go away (hahaha)

  9. I was under review and my car is in danger now .
they want I must pay 10 000 or take my car
    what do I do.

I am financially stable now and want to sort my car out.

    Please assist.

    • Since you dropped out of debt review (it seems from your comment) it will not offer you any protection. You need to make your credit provider a written offer to catch up payments (once you pay off arrears they will not be able to successfully take and sell your car).

In the meantime avoid offers of “storing” your car or asking you to sign any paperwork.
