Alliance of Professional Debt Counsellors Meeting

This month the Alliance of Professional Debt Counsellors (AllProDC) met in the Western Cape for a regional branch meeting. There was a good turn out at the meeting with some members traveling very far to attend. Several new faces were seen and later signed up as members. The meeting saw some serious voting but was characterised by much laughter and a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.

Several of the topics being covered at CIF were discussed such as the End Difference issue by Adri de Bruyn. The CIF proposals ( that the consumer pay where the difference is less than 3 months restructured payments – pretty much guaranteed to happen each time – or that an full investigation happen if the difference is more than 3 months worth was debated. Other proposals and CIF matters were also analysed in detail and the day to day consequences considered.

The product is designed to not only help settle the debt with the vehicle finance company but also get the consumer back on the road in a second hand vehicle of their choice within a budget of either R60 000 or R100 000 depending on which policy they take. Interestingly the product can be added onto any existing comprehensive insurance policy with any insurance company.

The New Amendments to the NCA were also discussed and debated.

It was noted that though the National Credit Amendment Act has been published in the Government Gazette, the President still has to publish the effective date (also in the Government Gazette) before the new amendments become enforceable. Some discussion followed in regard to why it was not published and it was urged that Debt Counsellors warn their clients and consumers in general about reactivating prescribed debt by making even small payments on really old debt that will soon be illegal for companies to collect on.

Lunch and conversation followed with new members signing up before everyone headed back to work.
