Business Tips

There is always a client slow down in debt review December each year.

Few consumers feel like being proactive in December. Most want to just have a bit of a break and forget their woes (even if those woes are chasing them in scary messages every day).

But maybe you have recently noticed, even before December, that things were slowing down.

Maybe you feel like consumers are not signing up for help and you are not sure what to do about it.

How can you beat the slump?

Time Allocation

When a new Debt Counsellor begins their practice, they have no clients (or maybe only a few at first), thus they allocate a large portion of their time to finding new clients.

They put all their focus and attention towards finding people to help. Sure, those numbers may come in slowly at first. Maybe 1 a week but over time the numbers start to add up and so more and more time needs to be allocated to doing the administrative functions of debt restructuring.

That means less time gets allocated to finding new clients. As a result, you try to get clever and use technology (Meta ads and Whatsapp messaging) to try make up the shortfall. You may turn to others within your team.

That does not always work as well as the way you were doing it before.

Your Own Enthusiasm

It is well known that the business owner in any business is the most passionate about that business.

This is also true of debt review. The Debt Counsellor knows all the benefits of the process and how it can help consumers, and so they often make the best salesperson.

But, Debt Counsellors, in a growing business, often have to rely on others to educate consumers about the process.

This means that consumers have to get information from people who are less educated and less passionate about the process.

And what happens when a once passionate new Debt Counsellor comes face to face with the everyday challenges of debt counselling behind the scenes?

It can rob them of some of their enthusiasm. That can then come across when dealing with staff or consumers. They pick up your hesitancy.

Where once you were in love with the process, you may now be focusing more on the problems you have to overcome to make things work for consumers. Sure, they may never see those things, all the extra work and emails and challenges, but they may be able to subconsciously hear it in your voice when you now discuss the process.

This can lead to a slow down in client sign ups as you become less convinced and thus less convincing.

What Can You Do To Turn Things Around?

If your debt management practice is not bringing in enough clients, then you need to make that the primary function of every day.

You need to allocate enough time and attention to ensure that you will get clients down the line.

Much like tending to soil around a plant, you may have to do work now that only shows in a little while. Remember how long things took when you first started up?

If you are feeling less than enthusiastic about the debt restructuring process, because of obstacles that credit providers or others put in your way, then rekindle your love of the process by spending time talking to your clients who have completed the process or are making good progress.
