Student Debt Cartoon

This cartoon by Randy Glasbergen rings all too true about the state of student debt.

In SA, at present, there are two sources of student loans that are commonly used: (1) Government-backed National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) or a student loan through one of the banks: ABSA, FNB, Nedbank or Standard Bank. An NSFAS loan holds only the student responsible to repay the debt while a bank loan is granted only with the signature and commitment of a parent or guardian.

Increasingly, however, parents are finding even lower grades of school (never mind “higher education”) very expensive which is why this cartoon really hits home.
