Debt Review Success Tips

There are many ways to get the most out of the amazing debt review process. In this series of articles, we are looking at some of the top tips for success.

Tip #2

Know Your Debt Counsellor Well

Many people enter debt review and find relief from the process. After a stressful period in their life, they are finally able to get help in restructuring their debt via the courts.

What can however happen is in the whirlwind of starting up the debt review process they do not keep all their emails and paperwork in one place and can even lose important information and details.

One of the most fundamental pieces of information is who is helping them. Their actual Debt Counsellor (not just the brand name that the Debt Counsellor works with).

Do you know who your Debt Counsellor is?

Do you know their name?

Do you know how to reach them?

Do you have their phone number and email address?

The need to talk to your Debt Counsellor will come up often over the time you are in debt review. This means it is important to know how to get hold of them and exactly who to talk to. Many Debt Counsellors work together in a practice with several support staff (who handle administrative matters). You need to know who to ask to talk to when you call your Debt Counsellor’s office.

You can find the name of your Debt Counsellor on your court papers (you should have a copy) and on documents, they have sent you (eg. your Form 17.2).
