Debtfree DC Workshop About Getting More Clients
- August 5, 2025
Looking For Clients
If you have been dreaming about opening up a debt counselling practice then it can be exciting to finally get your NCR registration and launch your business.
But…just having a website or physical office and a number to call is not going to mean clients will come knocking down your doors.
This is a pretty common issue for all small businesses in various industries. It is one thing to set up but getting clients regularly is a challenge.
A lot of people are unsure exactly what debt review and debt restructuring involves, and even if they do figure that out, there is no assurance they will choose your practice rather than someone else’s.
‘it costs Debt Counsellors around R2500 – R3500 … to educate a potential client’
In general, it costs Debt Counsellors around R2500 – R3500 (in advertising and time costs) to educate a potential client and make them aware of your brand before they will sign up for the process.
If you are starting out, you likely will have limited resources and experience on where to spend your time and money to educate potential clients.
So, where do you find new clients?

Free Online Workshop
Each week over the next few months Debtfree is hosting a free online Zoom Workshop for new Debt Counsellors and Debt Counsellors with less than 300 clients.
Each week we look at ways that you can attract more clients.
Recently we have covered how businesses grow and the risks of various stratergies. Over the next few weeks we will look at topics like: How to do Warm Outreach, Best practice for Cold Outreach, How to Design and where to feature Adverts and how to craft meaningful content that helps consumers and gets you views from potential clients.
If you are thinking of trying out new ways to draw potential clients, then join us online each Thursday for 30 minutes. The workshops run from 3pm to 3:30pm.
Simple Email: workshops@debtfreedigi.co.za
Each week we also invite a different industry role player or service provider to give attendees the chance to make new important connections. Recently, we had Nutun, Nimble, Consumer Friend and more. We have many other exciting guests lined up from across the industry and various big banks.
Warm Outreach
If you have a new business of any sort then letting the people closest to you or those you have worked with before know about your new endeavour is a good way to raise awareness of your services.
But…there are ways to do that and things you want to avoid. You don’t want to end up with your mom as your only client.
Join us this week as we dive into this topic.
Based in Gauteng?
If you are a Debt Counsellor based in Gauteng (or travelling up to Gauteng for the upcoming DCASA Conference) then you have the chance to join us at an in person workshop where we run through many of these topics all focused on how your individual practice can get more clients and keep them for longer.
The in-person workshop is tailored to the attendees through advanced research by our team and homework by those who attend.
We recently held the workshop in Cape Town and received amazing feedback from those who attended.
We asked attendees if they benefited:
100% said Yes (no one asked for their money back)
We asked attendees if they left with a workable and individualised To Do List:
100% said Yes.
Here are some of the other things they had to say about the workshop:
- “The way that Zak lays things out from the foundational level up, is a great refresher course for even savvy business owners.” – a DCASA Regional Representative
- “Dit was baie opvoedkundig en ek persoonlik het baie punte helpvol gevind en kan defnitief verband hou en aanpas” – a Long time Debt Counsellor with years of experience
- “Die event was baie opvoedkundig en relevant dit het my bewus gemaak van baie dinge wat ek kan verskillend doen en aanpas”– a popular debt counselling practice in a farming community
- “I appreciate everyone for sharing their struggles and their wins, and doesn’t see anyone as competition; instead, they want to help and see you grow…it added a lot of value for me that I can take along my journey” – a brand new Debt Counsellor waiting to start practising
- “insightful and makes you think of things you would not have” – Team leader from an award-winning DC practice.
- “Truly appreciate the investment you have made to share your wealth of knowledge and expertise with the debt counselling industry/community. I have much more work to do” – New Debt Counsellor with less than 50 clients.
