Standard Bank SMS Non Paying Clients

Standard Bank recently (8 April) sent out a whole bunch of SMS’ to consumers under debt review whose accounts were not getting payments for 60 days or more.

The campaign is aimed at warning consumers they may face their Standard Bank accounts being taken out of debt review if they do not pay. Another aim of the campaign is to identify those accounts where consumers are paying and due to some small mix up payment is not reaching Standard Bank.

confusionThis can happen for a variety of reasons. Perhaps the wrong account reference number is being used or perhaps their is a glitch in the PDA system making the payments or perhaps the consumer is trying to pay the bank directly themselves / using only their ID number or some other incomplete reference number at an ATM (really not the best way to go…).

Standard Bank have corresponded with Debt Counsellors and warned them that consumers may contact them (the DCs) as the SMS encourages consumers to do so. If you receive one of these SMS’ don’t panic. Be sure to contact your DC and they will check out where any possible hiccup might be (and sort it out).
