South African National Park’s Free Access Week
Who doesn’t love something for free?
Back in 2006, SAN Parks realised that most South Africans never visit the country’s national parks and that the entrance fees are sometimes standing in the way of people ever accessing them. So the idea of a few free days entrance each year was born. The idea has been met with enthusiasm from cheapskates all over the country. After all, the parks are often beautiful and enjoyable but the entrance fees can be pricey, especially when you are living on less.
Well, it is almost that time of year again. Whereas before the free week was normally from Mon to friday it has now been extended to include Saturday as well. The free access week starts soon, so make a plan and you could take advantage of this great deal at the best price: Free.
Free Week: Monday 8 Sept till Saturday 13th Sept 2014
How Do You Get In?
To get access is easy. All you have to do is make your way to the parks (see the list below) and present you official, green barcoded or smart SA ID . Kids might not have IDs so they don’t need anything. Those Though under the age of 16 will get free access even without any proof of ID. This also means nationality is not an issue.

Cape Point going that extra mile
Cape Point (in the Western Cape) is offering an added bonus special: a FREE ride on the Flying Dutchman Funicular. Can’t Get free During the Week or Sat?
If you cant make it during the week (or on Saturday) and live in the Cape then in a special extension the Bontebok and Tankwa Karoo national parks are giving free access till Sunday the 14th.
Take Advantage of the Free Week
Maybe you have never been to the closest National Park. Why not arrange for a group outing with a few of your friends and their families and go spend some time in nature? It is a great way to reduce stress, get some fresh air and save some bucks.
