Living on Less Tips (part 3)
Reading Time: < 1 minute
Times are tough and we are all learning to live on less. Each month Debtfree DIGI magazine has a feature called: LIVING ON LESS. Here is a practical tip or two on how you can live on less:
Tip 5
- Save electricity: switch off the lights if you are not in the room. When you leave for work in the morning unplug all unnecessary appliances i.e. kettle, toaster, cell phone charger and your Geyser. Your Geyser is a big culprit when it comes to electrical usage. Switch off your computer and printer when you are not using them. These small changes will drastically reduce your electricity bill each month.
Tip 6
- Car-pool your kids to school or drop them off on your way to work rather than make a separate trip. Ask your neighbours or work-mates if you can make some travel arrangements to get your kids to school or yourself to work, then you can share the petrol costs and reduce exhaust fumes.
Tip 7
- Cycle to work on a commuter-Friday. Of course you will want to make sure you have protective gear and the necessary flashing lights etc to ensure your safety. Cycling is healthy for you and for the environment and will give your car (and it’s thirsty petrol tank) a break. Who knows you might even be able to cycle more than once a week.
