SA To Move To Lockdown Level 3

SA President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that South Africa will move to Lockdown level 3 on the first of June 2020 as Government feel that hospitals are ready for the influx of infections and need to get the economy going again. The lower level will mean that most businesses (not restaurants and hotels) will be able to bring some or all staff back to work.

‘For those who have been languishing at home with no income, the prospect of earning some money is greatly appreciated’

For those who have been languishing at home with no income, the prospect of earning some money is greatly appreciated. Millions have been financially devastated and around the country, small businesses are collapsing left, right and centre. Even larger brands are falling by the wayside as companies such as Comair and Edcon have entered business rescue in an effort to stay afloat in one form or another in the months ahead.

And Now… The Deaths

As the country prepares to enter level 3 the rate of infections has been exponentially increasing and the resultant deaths following suit. Level 3 will see more people than ever moving around and being exposed to the virus and will result in thousands, hundreds of thousands or millions of new infections. This will bring a wave of increasing deaths in its wake.

Level 3 should also fully test the medical industry to its true limits as the case numbers swell.

What Happens To Your Debts If You Die?

Due to insurance on credit accounts (called credit life insurance), your debts should be settled if you have been paying your policies (beware of the danger of payment holidays that don’t specifically mention your credit life insurance policies).

Your family will have to provide the credit provider with your death certificate and the insurers should take care of the rest. This should then mean that your family do not get stuck with your debts in the case of your passing. Funerals can be attended by 50 people but social distancing needs to be maintained.

Sending Kids Back To School

Due to the wave of infections that will naturally follow in level 3 many parents are not confident that schools will be able to keep their kids from making mistakes in avoiding infection when schools open up again. Though kids seem to be avoiding the worst of the infections there are reports world wide of a new range of effects seemingly linked to Covid-19 that are hitting children.

As a result there are brewing problems with some parents saying they will not send their kids back to school, others demanding technological solutions and yet others demanding equality across all social and financial levels at this time.

Government has said they will not punish those parents who do not send their kids back to school at this time.

Time To Get Wasted!!!

It seems that booze will once again be made available. Bottle stores will open up again under strict conditions (and probably with more security than ever before). There will no doubt be a crazy initial rush.

Many people are concerned that this will simply bring with it all the associated social issues and threaten social distancing measures. The reality is that for a lot of people across the country social distancing has simply not been something they have done despite the lockdown. People have found ways to get around almost all restrictions put in place (for a price) anyway.

A countrywide detox has caused a lot of stress to the alcohol industry (which is a big tax payer) and to those unable to find a drink as supplies ran dry.

No doubt there will be reports of wide parties getting out of hand, drunk drivers and domestic violence linked to alcohol abuse in the papers int he weeks ahead from those who are unable to enjoy responsible alcohol use.

No smokes though.

Exercise Whenever

If you have wanted to be super fit but at the same time found yourself unable to have the discipline to wake up at 6am to exercise, the good news is that you will now be able to go out at any time of day to do so (the use of masks is still obligatory).

Welcome to Flight Covid-19

Worldwide Covid-19 did the rounds first on planes. As a result air travel was for the most part shut down (Good news SAA is getting another ( Billion Rand to pay salaries for a few more weeks).. Now some domestic air travel will be allowed.

Shop Up a Storm

Businesses everywhere are desperate for you to come and spend all your remaining money in their stores and the sale of appliances and clothing will also resume at level 3. So, feel free to take that money you have set aside for food and head to the mall to blow it on a new washing machine or a nice pair of pumps instead.

Lockdown Level 3 Is Not The End of Lockdown

When lockdown dropped to level 4 millions of South Africans went out to visit their friends or family even though not allowed. Once again as the level drops again it should be noted that socialising is not on the cards, neither are religious gatherings.

Those who are able to do so should try to shelter in place, should try work remotely, should try to reduce any contact with others who may carry the infection. Social distancing should be maintained and you should be washing your hands until they feel as dry as the Sahara.

Please stay safe, stay healthy.
