New Year’s Disillusionment

The beginning of the year is a time when people commonly set new goals. Some of the most common are to make more money, lose weight and of course to finally get a handle on your debt. That people focus in on their debt is no surprise as around half of all credit users in South Africa are months behind on payments on their debts.

mistakeDecember can be a tough month for those already under financial pressure. Gift giving and parties tend to drain the wallet even faster than normal and when January rolls around with it’s extra costs for school stuff it can be the straw that breaks the camels back.

Rather than raid your bosses stationary draw at work (that’s called stealing, in case you forgot) why not take a big step and get an outsider to look over your financial situation? Debt Counsellors are professionals who deal with debt on a daily basis. You may feel that you have done everything you can to reduce spending and make deals with your creditors but the chance is that you have not. This is probably because you simply do not have the experience that a professional Debt Counsellors does with these things or access to the people they have access to. Each creditor across the country has set up a dedicated debt review office to deal with consumers who are applying for help through the debt review process. Most of the unsecured credit providers are willing to reduce all charges and interest down to zero % if approached through a Debt Counsellor – something they will hardly ever offer consumers in any other way. Even those secured credit agreements (like a bond or car) can have all monthly charges dropped and the debt rescheduled over many more months to make the monthly payments more reasonable. Through debt review interest rate reduction are the norm here as well saving consumers a huge amount over the repayment period. In case you doubt that the process is legit, you should know that all debt review matters are placed before a magistrate who looks the arrangements over. This insures no funny stuff.

So, if you are suffering from the holiday hangover and feel that 2016 is already going the wrong way now is the time to turn things around and get a handle on your finances. Speak to your local Debt Counsellor. Most don’t even charge you a cent to have a long consultation about your situation and there is no upfront commitment. Why not resolve yourself to taking back control in 2016?
