It might not be something that you often think about but the Sunday Times working with Yellowwood have asked SA’s youth who they think are the coolest banks in South Africa.
Guess who they named?
The Sunday Times GenNext Survey
The Sunday Times run something called the GenNext Survey each year.
The survey identifies who young people think are the “coolest”. From business brands and cooldrinks to cars or banks the survey covers a wide range of topics and teens, tweens and youth weigh in on who is cool and who’s not.
This annual survey, led by Yellowwood, polled 7,200 young South Africans aged 8 to 30 years during 2024. It’s the ultimate guide to what’s trendy and aspirational in the eyes of the nation’s future leaders.
So, Who is the Coolest Bank?
The results of the 2024 survey were announced at the end of the year and you may now be wondering who the young folk think is the coolest bank brand.
And the winner is…Capitec Bank
That’s right. Capitec’s brand resonated the most with SA youth who were polled.
So, who’s chasing Capitec?
First National Bank (FNB) snagged second place, while Standard Bank, Nedbank, and Absa completed the top five. TymeBank came in 6th, Discovery Bank 7th, African Bank 8th and OM coming in 9th. The final member of the top 10 was Investec.
Whether it’s slick apps, cool campaigns, or just “vibes”, Capitec came out as South Africa’s banking trendsetter during 2024.
