TymeBank is Now Officially GoTyme Bank

Rebrand Complete
TymeBank has officially changed its name to GoTyme Bank in South Africa.
The change was confirmed by the South African Reserve Bank on April 13, bringing a rebranding process that began in late 2025 to a close. Many customers may be wondering what this means for their accounts, their cards, and how they bank day to day. There is often concern when a bank changes its name, especially in a digital banking environment where everything happens through an app. The good news is that this change is more about growth and alignment than disruption. Here is what you need to know.
The move to GoTyme Bank is not just about a new name. It reflects the bank’s connection to a larger global group that operates in countries like the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam. By using the same brand across markets, the group aims to build a stronger and more consistent identity. According to CEO Cheslyn Jacobs, the change shows where the bank is heading, while still keeping the same foundation in place. He explained that it is still the same bank, operating under the same licence and principles, just with a brand that better reflects its size, technology, and ambitions.

For customers, the most important update is the new GoTyme Bank app. The app officially launched in January 2026 and is being rolled out in phases to ensure everything runs smoothly and securely. Existing customers do not need to open new accounts or change their banking details. Their accounts, balances, and transaction history have all been moved across automatically. To get started, customers simply need to download the new app and log in using their existing details.
The Updated App
The new app brings a cleaner design and improved performance, along with stronger security features. It also makes it easier for users to save, spend, send money, and manage their finances in one place. This focus on user experience is part of what has helped the bank grow over the past few years. Since launching in 2019, the bank has attracted more than 10 million customers in South Africa and over 15 million globally. It also reached profitability in December 2023, which is a rare achievement in the digital banking space.
GoTyme Bank continues to offer the features that made TymeBank popular in the first place. These include zero monthly banking fees, quick digital onboarding that can take less than five minutes, free instant payments, and competitive savings rates. Customers can also still use retail partners and kiosks for cash deposits and withdrawals, which helps bridge the gap between digital and physical banking.
Beyond everyday banking, the bank is also focused on supporting small businesses. Through its merchant cash advance offering, GoTyme Bank provides funding solutions that help small and medium sized businesses grow. This plays an important role in improving access to finance for entrepreneurs across South Africa.
So, while the name has changed, the core experience remains familiar. Customers can expect the same services, now supported by an improved app and a brand that is consistent with their growing international presence.
