NCR Debt Help Work Around

The NCR has accelerated plans for the use of the Credit Bureau Association Portal for issuing Clearance Certificates.

A Fast Solution

The debt counselling industry has been reeling for weeks after a vital portal run by the National Credit Regulator was shut down by them due to misconfiguration issues.

This left thousands of consumers in the lurch unable to be properly onboarded into debt review and many others stuck unable to leave debt review.

With no end in sight for the woes, there was a desperate need to find work around solutions.

Fortunately, one was lying within reach for those who have successfully finished the debt review process.

For a long time, the Credit Bureau Association and the NCR have been working on a special portal where Debt Counsellors will capture information about consumers who have finished paying off their debts. We will refer to it as the CBA Portal for simplicity in this article.

The CBA Portal was set to be launched early this year, and special online training was completed with all NCR registered Debt Counsellors late last year.

Due to unexpected delays, the date that the system would become the only way Debt Counsellors can capture clearance certificates and issue them to the various credit bureaus was pushed back. And then the NCR’s Debt Help Database disappeared, throwing things into chaos.

Turning On the CBA Portal

The good news is that as per a recent Guideline from the NCR, the system is going live and Debt Counsellors will again be able to issue clearance certificates to consumers ready to now re-enter the credit market.

The Guideline (1 of 2026) explains that plans will proceed as was previously shown in trainign given online, with the exception that the CBA portal will temporarily not do a reverse check on the NCR’s Debt Help System of some info before publishing the changes across the consumers credit reports (basically, the issuing of a clearance certificate removes any referance to the consumer being under debt review).

The circular mentions training happening again on Monday, 2nd of March, for Debt Counsellors, though emails sent from the CBA and debt counselling Associations now seem to indicate that it might actually be on the 5th of March.

Activating and allowing access to the CBA Portal is great news and will help many consumers who have been trapped for a month now due to NCR Debt Help being turned off suddenly.

This is good news.
