Slow Turn-Around Times From ABSA

Debt Counsellors on various forums are complaining about the slow responses they are getting from ABSA to requests for simple account information.

Normally when a consumer enters debt review a letter (called a 17.1) is sent to the consumers creditors. The creditors then (within 5 days…sometimes 10 days max) send back a certificate of balance for the consumers accounts. The Debt Counsellor then uses this information to help make a proposal to the various creditors and the court on how to repay the debt.

One Debt Counsellor who asked for information about a consumer right at the beginning of January reports that he only got the information on the 7th of February (more than a month). The response was however dated 28th of January. Does this mean that the document has actually been waiting on ABSA’s system for 11 days extra before been sent? Who knows??

What is clear is that there seems to be a big problem at ABSA Debt Review Department.
