Many people who work as Debt Counsellors do so because they love their clients and want to help them.But you can’t help anyone if you burn out in 2026. So, think about some basic ways you can avoid burnout this year. Try These... Set up rules for yourself around your work/life balance(& Stick to them) Unplug When you Need ToSet up defined start and stop timesBuild in small breaks in each day (eg Tea Time).Share the load with others (eg Admin work) Get plenty of Sleep Light pollution – consider black-out curtains.No devices close to sleep time is a common suggestion. Do Some ExerciseNot only is it good for your metabolism, but time spent exercising gives you quiet time to think, to decompress, to stop thinking about work. Set aside Time for yourself & your familyWho are you doing all this hard work for?Spend time with them. Talk through your stresses with others E.g. at DC meetings, with friends. Talk to someone. A problem shared is a problem halved. Focus on The Good StuffBad news and an overload of notifications, endless running around dealing with problems, can cause burnout.Adopt a grateful mindset for the good things in your life.Think about all the good you are doing for your clients.Read positive client reviews for a tiny boost each day (or listen to the Debt Review with Dummies podcast) Know When To Slow DownBe modest, know when you getting close to your limits and purposefully slow down.
