Debt Counsellors, would you like to win a course valued at R3000?
Debt review is a legal process but many of us are not really very familiar with how things at Magistrate Court work. How can you make the legal side of your practice run smoothly?
Debtfree is partnering up with Debt Court Pro to provide one reader with the chance to attend the 2 day course for free!
The course is designed to assist Debt Counsellors with a general understanding of the Motion Court procedure and format as well as general information on what appearing at the Magistrate’s Court entails.
Course Contents:
An overview of the Magistrate’s Courts Act and Rules
Information re: court officials and jurisdiction.
Discussion of Rule 55: the Motion procedure – including the Notice of Motion, Founding Affidavit (single and married consumers), serviced affidavit, consumer affidavit, court orders, service of legal process, opposed applications including replying affidavits etc.
Advice on how to contact an attorney, enquire about fees, letters of appointment of attorneys, issuing, service and filing of applications, court file preparation, notice of set down as well as what is required when applications are postponed, service of orders, record keeping and status changes on DHS.
BONUS: Those attending the course receive a template bundle of various court documents and legal agreements.

The competition has rules and is governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Participants agree to abide by the rules. Entrants must be over 18 years of age. To enter the competition those hoping to win must email the required information to Debtfree Magazine. The prize consists of 2 day in person training in the Pretoria area and is supplied at the expense of Debt Court Pro. Travel is not included and is at the winner’s own expense. Available dates will be shared with the winner and they will be able to choose one of two upcoming dates, after which the prize will lapse. The prize may not be transferred without the express consent from and at the sole discretion of Debt Court Pro and cannot be exchanged for cash. Entrants will be screened for suitability (being registered as a Debt Counsellor or applying to do so will be considered most suitable) and possible attempts at manipulating the process. If the promoters (Debtfree Magazine) are unable to reach the potential prize winner within 3 attempts such winner will be disqualified and the next suitable entrant identified. The promoter’s decision in regard to the winner is final. The promoters reserve the right to amend, modify, postpone or cancel this competition, the rule or prize without notice at any time. Redemption of the prize will be coordinated by Debt Court Pro. Competition ends 15 Aug 2024.
