NCR Complain About Monitoring Visits

NCR logoThe National Credit Regulator registers all Debt Counsellors country wide and monitor them for compliance with a set of standards or conditions of registration. One of those conditions is that the Debt Counsellor cooperate when the NCR want to come visit and check up on them. This is done normally each year in an effort to ensure that all Debt Counselling practices are up to standard. The visits also give the NCR a chance to see if their info gathering via the www.ncrdebthelp.co.za system is accurate.

Recently the NCR have complained that some Debt Counsellors duck and dive and dodge visits. They have been having problems getting to visit some Debt Counsellors and probably suspect this is due to non compliance by the Debt Counsellor. They have now warned that just because they have not been on site and had a look at a few cases with the Debt Counsellor, this does not mean they will not be able to take action against such dodgy Debt Counsellors. They have released an official circular which warns that if Debt Counsellors repeatedly avoid monitoring visits this means they are in violation of their conditions of registration and can be deregistered.

In such a case the NCR will refer the Debt Counsellor to the National Consumer Tribunal and ask that they be deregistered.
