NCR Ask To Be Kept in The Loop

The National Credit Regulator (NCR) register Debt Counsellors and monitor their adherence to conditions of registration. The NCR have a website where consumers can go and get information on local Debt Counsellors. The list also shows who has been deregistered. The idea being that it is a resource for troubled consumers looking for help.

Over time Debt Counsellors have complained that when they inform the NCR about changes to their contact details (like when they move or change phone numbers) that these take a long time to get shown on the website meaning they might be missing potential clients.

Now it is the NCR’s turn to complain. They have sent out a circular saying that they are working with out of date contact details for Debt Counsellors who change their details and only update on the NCR’s other website called www.ncrdebthelp.co.za. This is a site that Debt Counsellors have to update all the time to inform the NCr as to what is happening with every client they have under debt review. The system allows Debt Counsellors to update contact details. It seems that some Debt Counsellors assumed that the NCR would use this information to update their internal records or the data base. The NCR say this is not the case and the two systems do not link up. They have asked that Debt Counsellors not only update that website but also contact them immediately if any change occurs.

The circular was sent out to their database of Debt Counsellor email addresses. It is hoped that these were up to date. You can read the circular here: No13 Notification of Change in Debt Counsellor Contact Details
