Debt Review Awards Week Begins
Each year people and companies registered with the National Credit Regulator (NCR) are asked to participate in an industry peer review. This allows Debt Counsellors to provide feedback on how credit providers are doing. Credit Providers to rate the Payment Distribution Agents and Debt Counsellors and the Debt Counsellors to rate the performance of their own PDAs. All this information is added up and numbers crunched by computers until the top reviewed companies and individuals are revealed (and audited).
During the start of the week the names of the Top 10 Debt Counselling Firms in various size categories is published on the www.debtreviewawards.co.za website which reveals who some of this year’s highest-rated firms are.
Each year the Debt Review Awards recognises over 50 different Debt Counsellors and credit providers in various categories.
Thursday
In an effort to encourage local Debt Counsellors and Credit Providers to get to know one another better some arrangements have been made for local DCs and CPs to go visit one another on Thursday (18th). This will enable them to learn more about each other’s operations and how best they can work together to provide support to consumers in the process.
Friday
Friday will see a joint National Credit Regulator (NCR) and Debt Review Awards workshop day. Local and visiting Debt Counsellors and credit providers have been invited to attend these workshops and discuss concerns and goals they have about the debt review process. There will be workshops on topics like DebiCheck and insurance as well as training by the NCR and engagement with various Banks.
Saturday
On Saturday evening guests will be dressed up as they head to the Gala venue to have their photos taken (be sure to check our facebook page for pics) and mingle with representatives from debt counselling firms, credit providers, PDAs, Regulators, Tribunal members, attorneys and members of the public. The event is not lavish but does present those who attend with the chance to be entertained, hear speeches from industry personalities. Consumers also attend and receive their clearance certificates on the night as the audience celebrate their journey to becoming debt free. The Gala culminates in revealing the names of those who were the highest rated in the industry peer review.
Sunday
On Sunday a small breakfast with those who attended and are staying in the area will give some the last chance to chat face to face for another year before heading to the airport for the return trip home.
The annual event is aimed at raising awareness about the debt review process and those in the industry who are working hard to improve the process for consumers going through debt review. All in all, it is a packed and exciting week with lots on the go as the industry prepares for all the action on the weekend and we wish all participants the best for this year’s event.
