An Extra Public Holiday This December

When the Boks won the Rugby World Cup the nation jumped for joy…at the prospect of holding the President to his promise of a new public holiday.

The announcement has been made that the extra public holiday this year will fall on the 15th of December. This falls just a day before the already existing public holiday on the 16th. This means workers will be treated to a double public holiday weekend this December.

The 15th falls on a Friday and lines up with the end of the work year for many in the construction industry.  Workers who work on a public holiday (there are several throughout December) are entitled to double pay or can ask to swap the day for another work day.
