Free Access To SAN Parks (16-20 Nov)
Free Access Week At SAN Parks
It makes sense for locals to be given free access to local National Parks at least every now and then. After all, we live here and probably have access rights assured somewhere in law. It makes sense to charge the tourists for access and no doubt helps fund needed stuff for the parks and helps cover bills etc. But it would be unfair for locals to never go just because we all don’t have any cash.
In an effort to avoid any lawsuits etc, the South African National Parks offer free access to most of the SAN Parks nationwide at least once a year.

If you have been thinking about getting out and getting some fresh air during lockdown then this might be a perfect opportunity for you to get out and about but still avoid unnecessary crowds etc with the risk of Covid-19 about.
What You Need
To qualify for free access you need to go during operating hours, go between the 16th November and the 2oth and have a valid South African identity document (if you are older than 18. They don’t worry about kids having ID).
Exclusions
Please note that the following spots are not included in the free access week:
Namaqua National Park
Boulders Penguin Colony
Table Mountain Aerial Cableway
Also, it is good to note that some parks (particularly the various spots or as they call them ‘sectors’ around Table Mountain) have quotas of people they allow access to at one time or during one day. This is primarily at braai areas where they tend to limit access to 250 people at a time. This is probably a good thing given current Covid-19 risks.

Don’t Miss Out
If you have been wanting to visit some of the parks but have held off because the cost while you are living on less, now is your chance to get free access…and free is the best price.
