Cape Town Workshop

A group of hard working Debt Counsellors gathered in Cape Town to talk about ways to grow their practice, bring better service to clients and ultimately, how to get more clients.

Although so many people have crushing debt these days, not many are actively trying to find solutions. They seem defeated and overwhelmed. Some try get more debt to make things better but are only making things worse.

So, how can Debt Counsellors, who have the amazing debt review process at their fingers get in contact with and help these stressed consumers?

This was the topic of a full day workshop held in Cape Town in June.

Debt Counsellor and Editor of the Debtfree Magazine, Zak King shared many of the secrets he has seen over the last 17 years in the industry and while working with Debt Counselling practices across the country.

‘the workshop also delved deep into how to keep clients’

The focus was on brand building to weather the significant changes coming due to technology and tighter consumer data protection, but the workshop also delved deep into how to keep clients. Sadly, many who start the debt review process drop out or are lured away from completing the process.

How We Treat Customers

The workshop guests also enjoyed a presentation from CJ Keuler of ONE insurance (who very kindly provided not only the venue for the day but meals and refreshments).

ONE provides a suite of debt review specific insurance services such as credit life insurance replacement to help consumers save when they enter debt review.

Much of his focus was on treating customers fairly.

This is a topic close to the heart of those who wish to see the industry flourish and grow. He encouraged all attending to incorporate such TCF values into their practices. He also encouraged Debt Counsellors to make their contracts and information easy for customers to understand. This tied in closely with many of the topics of the day.

Work To Do | More People To Help

Getting more clients requires work but also the knowledge of where to expend your limited time and energy.

One attendee said that Zak pushed everyone to “work, work harder and work some more and be better”.

Another said that they: Truly appreciate the investment…made to share your wealth of knowledge and expertise

Each guest finished the day with some amazing bonuses and also left with a comprehensive, tailored “To Do” list to work on.

More than that, they received assistance in deciding which tasks to tackle first for their practice in order to grow.

1 Last Chance In Gauteng

Cape Town Debt Counsellors enjoyed the workshop and now have lots to do but that does not mean those in other parts of the country will not get a chance to attend.

There will be just one more in person workshop this year held in Gauteng on the 13th of August 2025

The workshop will be held on the day before the DCASA Conference in Gauteng. This means those traveling up or traveling in will be able to arrive a day early and attend the workshop.
