Getting Ready for Change
CREDIT & DEBT law conference
The National Credit Act has been amended by the National Credit Amendment Act which will soon come into effect. This means that all credit providers and Debt Counsellors will need to change how they are doing business on a day to day basis. As a result a lot of people in the industry are now talking about how these long awaited changes will actually affect their businesses. Various Debt Counsellor associations have been discussing these matters at their regional meetings and there are even conferences being hosted to look at these issues in detail.

CREDIT & DEBT law conference
The topic will also be discussed at the upcoming CREDIT & DEBT law conference to be held in Jo’berg on the 1st of July 2014. The NCR’s Lesiba Mashapa will be presenting in regard to not only why the amendments were needed but what the amendments will mean. Another topic spinning off the changes to the NCA is in regard to prescribed debt. Gys Verster of Flemix & Associates will discuss this topic. It will now be an offense under law to sell or even try collect on prescribed debt. Are there loopholes? How can companies avoid becoming guilty of an offense and how to deal with clients looking to collect such debt will no doubt be discussed.
