Government Ministers have to hand in their credit cards
No more credit cards for ministers
Recently it was announced by Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan that in an effort to cut back on government spending government officials would be losing their government credit cards. The process of recalling these cards has now begun. President Zuma made announcements about it this week in the National Assembly.
Minister Pravin Gordhan said in his mini budget: “No new credit cards to be issued, and existing ones to be cancelled immediately,”
It seems even the government sees the benefit of holding back from using credit cards without proper planning and budgeting. There have also been allegations of abuse of these cards. This will now seemingly come to an end as these cards are recalled and cancelled.
The President announced: “Ministers have already been informed formally of this decision, and other spheres of government are being formally notified as well,”
So it’s Snip, Snip, no more government Credit Cards.
