The NCR have distributed their code of conduct for debt counselling to Debt Counsellors around the country.

As before the proposed codes cover very little in the way of conduct. Mentioned are: attitudes toward cooperation with credit providers and having a complaints process. Little else in the way of conduct is discussed.

No doubt comments from the various Debt Counsellor Associations will follow. One Debt Counsellor has asked why this code is even necessary since topics like these are covered in the Debt Counsellors conditions of registration.

Of note is the mention of consumers who qualify for debt review as well as PDA’s ( payment distribution agents) in regard to repayments by consumers. It is unclear if this is in fact in accord with the competition act and NCA.
